The Viability of Side Quests Post-20
Hey guys,
My question is much as the thread states: what is the purpose of side quests after you are 20? I understand that some raise faction, and those are fine. But the ones that give you experience when you already have a zillion skill points and some paltry amount of money...? Why are there so many of these yet I don't see any reason to complete them? Second question: Could someone refer me to a good thread/website with info on methods to collect lots of money in guild wars? I seem to always be broke. Thanks guys. |

Anywhere else, it's either Faction or spare Sunspear points (assuming you're going for a title in the latter). ...or just for fun. You know, that vague, whispy force that loses power with every round of new players? |

None besides free skills, by the time you do the quest you could get more xp/gold doing other things.

Well, aside from skill quests (Prophecies) and faction, rep, or SS/LB points, many people do them just to flesh out the lore of the various places in the game.
A couple of other reasons: 1. Because they're there. 2. Quick and easy XP for Survivor seekers who need a break from Kilroy's or other mindless XP grinds. (Kaineng City, I'm looking at you, TYVM!) 3. Boredom 4. Action, adventure, and really wild things. (don't forget your towel!) |

If you're going through the game doing side-quests, the gold and rewards add up. See also, lots of experience.
In terms of gold and exp, you may be better off farming, but that's not for everyone.

Some quests spawn bosses with elite skills that can be harder to get elsewhere. That can be useful if the only other bosses are in the middle of nowhere or in areas you havn't gotten to yet.

Mostly the XP. Even though you may be level 20, the XP gives you skill points. Skill points give you the ability to buy/cap more skills. More skills means more builds.
But even the money/items you get from them will add up. You say you want a website that tells you how to make money, but quests are a great way to make money, and doing a quest that rewards a skill instead of buying the skill saves money. |

I liked the idea of having completed every quest availible. So i did every single quest in prophecies. But now i have decided titles would be more fun, so im sitting back and having a good vanquish every couple of days.

There are a bunch of reasons to do them, even you don't need the XP. These include faction, SS/LB points, cash, skills, collectable tradable items and other stuff you get in addition to the XP reward. Also, some of them give a deeper understanding of the story, which may or may not interest you.

Uhhmmm, because by playing through, killing things, and completing the quests you'll wind up getting money?
I've made more money than I know what to do with simply by playing through the entire content of the game. Never really farmed much except for some early XP in the tutorial areas. Hanok Odbrook |

I usually do extra quests to level up my heroes. I mean, a level 15 Sousuke won't last out very long in a level 20 area, so I finish them with my level 20 heroes, switch them out for my unleveled heroes, and then claim the rewards.
I take some of the Kaineng quests for reasons such as - I'm not sure what the quest is called, but there's one that turns all the Am Fah friendly for as long as you don't complete it. |

Gold with least amount of effort can be obtained by doing PvP (low-end) for Balthazar Faction and trading in for Zaishen Keys. Then sell the keys (4k each at the moment) and you have gold to spend.

Many of the side quests in Factions and Nightfall give you reward trophies (Imperial Commendations, Kournan Coins, etc.). The Vabbian Trade Contracts are quite valuable, since they can be traded for rubies and sapphires, while the others can be traded for some moderately expensive items. I use mule characters to do side quests to get some of these trophies, which keeps my main characters well supplied with free Superior Salvage Kits and such.

Doing side quests gets you experience. But you're not the only one who gets that xp, your heroes gain that xp as well. So you could do all those side quests to level up your heroes. I personally use the quests in and around Kaineng City for hero levelling. Tons of xp (2k - 3k-ish) per quest and most of them are just "go talk to this guy" or "go get this" kinda thing and collect the xp. The gold rewards for said quests aren't all that hot, but it does add up. It's why I made a quest spreadsheet to keep track of all the quests. Well, okay, I made it because I'm just a teeny tiny bit obsessive compulsive.
-- Must complete EVERY single quest and kill EVERY single critter...... p.s. Now for a shameless plug for my spreadsheet..... The quest spreadsheet is available in the Community Works section of these forums. Check here. |

Some quests change enemy spawns in the instance. These can be exploited with farming builds to obtain greater profit than normal in that area or additional faction or rank, as long as you don't complete the quest. A few examples of this are "Requiem for a Brain" and "Show of Force" for Lightbringer farming in Junundu, and "The Halcyon Job" or "Defend North Kryta Province" for general farming. There is a sticky in the farming forum with some notable quests worth keeping.
